“Service Tip”

It is not well understood how many times the thread passes back and forth through the eye of the needle before it ends up permanently in the fabric. To check this out thread up your machine with white thread. With a marker, put a black mark on the thread above the needle. Then turn the machine by hand or run as slow as possible and watch the black mark on the thread. You will see it go down and through the eye of the needle and disappear but then it will reappear going the opposite way through the eye of the needle. This back and forth action happens many times before it finally is part of a stitch in the fabric. When you consider that this is happening when sewing at fast speeds, it is easier to understand why good quality thread is needed to avoid problems when sewing. A good deal of friction and heat occurs and poor thread more easily frays or breaks.
